Singapore Piaget Academy
Singapore Piaget Academy Medan, currently known among the locals as one of the best school in Medan.. well….
Alright, I do admit that the school is well… OK.. I was and still am happy with my 2 boys education development in the school until I saw this last week…. mind you.. this is not the first time… in fact, it happened several times to BOTH my boys..

what you see is the work of my eldest son who is currently in K2 @ Piaget… Initially, I didn’t think of much and simply thought that the MISSes were busy and in hurry so, assuming that what he wrote were all correct, so they simply gave a TICK to all answers.
But it’s when I reviewed the work with my son and told him that he had done wrong, he blankly pointed out to me that he wrote ‘1590′ (the correct answer), BUT his MISS told him that he is wrong !!!… then to think that he is lying to me, well.. I often practice these maths equations with him at home, and he has no problem answering them to me…
To think that the teacher is careless is already unacceptable to me … BUT to tell the kid that he is wrong!!! it does get on my nerve…. seriously, these are very basic mathematics that the kids need to know and the school is making it so confusing to them ????? …
Frankly, what I am doing with my 2 boys are that I am guiding them personally at home with Singapore Education Syllabus… what I do is, I get hold of the Singapore’s school standard Textbooks and use them as a guide to maintain the correct standard of knowledge….. this may sound fussy to some parents, but I am not 100% happy with what the Medan school is putting in my son’s brain…

I think you should clarify with the teacher or complain to the admin office; otherwise if we as parent do not complain, the standard will keep dropping..

Hi there.
would you care to elaborate how all is well now?
As a teacher I’m interested to know how such a mistake can be justified.
Thanks
Joe

well.. she explained that since Jadon often answered all the questions correctly… so she simply assumed that what he wrote on were all correct … hence… ticking without a second look… ^-^

I can see that the boy gave 3 wrong answers. The only thing misleading is that the teacher should mark a cross instead of a tick.,even the correct answer was written by the teacher below(circled).
Can it be that the teacher is trying not to hurt the boy’s feeling especially if the boys’ behaviour appear to be egoistic?Sorry if I sound offending.
Some poor teacher are out there to earn a honest living but fear losing their job and may have fear of offending the rich.Rich are known to complain at the slightest mistake.

medan as the high nerves stressed orally people, in my mind it was not a surprise news.
many unconditionally teacher acting like an actress…however they should behave like a teacher.
in my experience against conflict in SPA, please send your complain to admin (ms. sumarni and friends), they will handle you with cares and more smiles…
kindly regards

I heard from my friend that almost all of the teachers are philipino and philipinos dont really care about the reasons that you make even though you are right. They just think that they are the one who’s right and perfect.

Hi there.
Well, according to my experiences, most of my previous teachers taught me well.. Perhaps, at that moment, she was just overwhelmed by the amount of work that she had to do, so, she decided to close 2 eyes about it. I am not encouraging either, but, you should go ahead and report it to the person in charge immediately.

Hi there,
Actually it’s not surprising at all. I’ve taught many students from Piaget, SIS, SIA, POS, etc and to be honest, those schools curricula sucks, not to mention the teachers there. Sometimes parents are being selfish, they like to boost their ego without thinking of the children’s necessities, they thought that by enrolling their children in high-end and expensive schools will put them on airs and they have something to be proud of when their circle of friends asked about their children’s school.
Parents often mesmerized by the words “international” , “native speaker”, “singapore curriculum”, etc. But how many of you parents really realize the quality of the teachers? I can employ an American as a teacher in my school, but can the American really teach? what if he/she just a backpacker or a maid back in his/her country? Just because he/she has a label as an American, blond hair, blue eyes and can speak English then you can guarantee that he/she can educate your children?
Parents should realize that we, here in Medan are not using English as our mother tongue and by forcing the singapore’s curriculum into the children education system will only make the children stressed out and having trouble in catching up the subjects taught at school, as a result the children will be less happier, less understanding towards the subjects given and they won’t be getting any smarter compared to other local school students such as Sutomo or Methodist.
Imagine, a P2 student (around 7 years old) was taught about fraction (for math) and present perfect continuous tense (for english subject), so insane!!! Have a mercy on those children, give them more time to play and learn from their surroundings instead of forcing them to study and tuition all the time.
Please omit the thought that expensive is always good, or branded is great. Parents, you’re just wasting your money for status. You’re ruining your children just to fulfill your vague ambition.
Don’t ruined the childhood, let them live as a human not a robot

Hi spinster,
Schools like Piaget and SIS use the same textbooks as Singapore schools. If Singapore’s education system is one that is highly regarded in Asia, then how could the curriculum at Piaget or SIS be any worse off? The only factor that might compromise the schools would be the delivery and quality of teachers. I agree that there are black sheeps in every school, not just at the so-call branded schools. I have heard of irresponsible and sub-standard teachers at Sutomo and Methodist before too, so let’s be more open-minded and not stereo-type the ‘international’ schools as business institutions out to con parents of their money. Schools should be informed when parents uncover dodgy teachers. In that way, our children will be able to enjoy better education. Let’s all help the schools become a better place for our children learn and grow.

Please allow me to add that, according to my findings, schools like Sutomo or Methodist have more tests and exams than ‘international’ schools. Therefore, I don’t see how Sutomo or Methodist students can have a childhood with less academic stress.

Frankly I am amazed that someone replying on this blog claims to be a teacher- tuition I suppose and can’t apply correct English! Maybe you should look at your own qualities and qualifications before casting aspersions on those of others.
