My Luggage was lost
well… on 9 Nov, I have to fly back to Bangkok for my brothers wedding on the 10 Nov…. even before my departure day and while I have my booking done, my instinct told me that its not going to be a smooth trip as always… and well its does not as expected…
for the past years that I have to fly out of medan, I will always and at all times make sure that the luggage tag that is put onto my bag belongs to me and that the destination is right but some how, its not for this trip… as we all know that, most of the time, the travel agent will deal with all the check in and so he does it for me and just as well, he is a new guy…ai..
as i arrived, my husband and me met a few friends who happens to be going to BKK and starts telling me how much they all enjoy thailand… and so, i did not do what I should have done… i ignore my luggage check in….
as i arrived in Singapore to be told that my luggage had been cross tag, meaning that i have someones else luggage and another person have mine…. to cut story short, it was brought to Taipei and lost for a few days and I got it all back on 13Nov!!! and now i have to apply for all the compensations…. the worst was that my gowns for the wedding was in there and i had only 2 hours in BKK to search for it….
I could never really understand why Medan airport is so way out of this world…. I was in Padang and their airport is nothing compare to here…. the arrival hall has to be the worst and it just makes you feel totally pissed off the moment you step back to Medan….

I feel bad for you. Medan’s Polonia Airport is the worst airport in the world. All the authorities and staffs there are criminals. They steal, they blackmail, they do all the bad things for money. You need to keep your eyes open all the time for your belonging or something might gone in seconds. I won’t go back to Medan until the new Kuala Namu Airport fully operated (maybe another 5 years). SO sad!

I thought I was the only one feeling the same about Polonia!
Well thank God I never had any incident with luggage like you did, but having anything to do with Polonia always stretches me out to the limit.
Everytime I come back there assuring myself that I know what to expect: the hot & humid air, rude & ineffective service, impossible queues, also swindlers trying to rip you off by insisting on some “obligatory” service to seal your pieces of luggage (and charge you excessively afterwards) – they never fail to find new sorts of bummer to frustrate me with.
Last time I traveled out of Medan, the check-in queue was relentlessly long as usual, and as it came to my turn, the officer only checked me in & returned my ticket along with the boarding pass, but told me to wait to check my luggage in, as they were sharing the scale with the next check-in counter which was about to board at the same time! They said they will call out names of passengers when they can weigh and hand in their luggage, in the order of who had done the checked in first. I don’t know where else in the world where you can do check-in without handing in your luggage but in Medan!
And the hassle didn’t stop there. So I was waiting & idling around the counter with the crowd around me seemed to push and squeeze forward, yet I never got my name called out. It was another 25 minutes before I realized that near the check-in counter some porters full of ‘initiatives’ had actually queued up the tickets of passengers (mainly the passengers whom they’ve offered their service for) who had previously done check in and waiting to hand in their luggage. That’s certainly why the officer who promised to call upon the passengers never do so, because they’re already been faced with a queue of tickets. At the time I gave up and handed them my ticket to be queued up, I was like the 15th in the queue or so. By then, I was even too tired to be pissed off..!
Lesson when in Polonia again: When you think you’re exercising good citizenship by queuing up, beware that it might not be people-queue which is counted, it might be tickets-queue, or other unexpected queues instead…
