Ceng Beng in Medan
Today I went to the yearly Ceng Beng @ K. Durian…… very very tired (sleep @ 1 am to set up my new blog on money..money..money) and woke up at 5am to prepare for this Ceng Beng thing…. my husband’s families do it every year… so as a wife… you have to go with the flow….. I dont mind just that I should have slept earlier……..feeling headache the whole day… and ended napping on the office sofa…. ai.. (we leave early to avoid traffic… though lucky for us… it was only 20 mins to get there this year….. 2 years back.. we were stuck in the jam for 2 hours from 5.30 am)
on the way… I saw this little kiddy ride…. there are 4 little cars on the top of this trailer… I supposed its what kids in this kampung paid to get them entertain… while just 30 mins ride to Sun Plaza… and you get the Time Zone version….
I am trying to google for the actually explanation to this Chinese tradition culture but none that is well and with logical explanation showed up…. anyway… what I understood since young is just that…. its the time of year where all families members.. i.e uncle, aunty, cousins are supposed to meet up to pay respect to the dead ancestors…… thats just about what I know really….
these are the basic kind of stuff that we burned…. mainly paper being folded to make it looks like the traditional chinese gold and silver bar…. while those in the boxes… its more gold paper….. (I guess so… never really open it up to see whats inside)….
now….heheh….. can u see the black string circling those boxes and papers…… my father-in-law said that its to protect against losses when its being burned and sent up to heaven to my great grand in-laws….. else, it will be stolen when it arrived up there….. thats the first time I heard….very interesting…
when I was younger, I remembered seeing my dad burning stuff like cars, houses and clothes (made from paper of course)…. but right now.. people are burning less stuff of these as we get a little smarter, I suppose……. though you still see some people burning it in Medan….. then again, with improvement in technology, in addition to cars, clothes, …… and to be more in line with this new Millennium….. things like DVD, Handphone, PDA, game station are being included too….. then last week in the market… of all things that they have especially made for this Ceng Beng festival…. I saw paper BRA…!!! in different designs and colours…. OMG….. for who?????? prostitute up there?
we all know that …. when you are buying a condo… it costs more to be on the higher floor and more $$ again to get the better view…. well… the same rules apply here @ Chinese Cemetry….. mountain at the back and water in front is the ideal choice… for good feng shui purposes….

Sorry,your late in laws will be very dissapointed to know that you are just following your hubby to pay respect every year during Qing Ming physically.
Take this as a reunion of a family every year and you will surely look forward to it.You should be staying late at night because of folding traditionally paper money and not staying late because of setting up your blog on money money money which can be done some other day..
It does not serve any purpose for Qing Ming if you do it just because you have to .Preserve our culture if we can.
My apology if I have offended you.My late father ,a Medan Larng is not so furtunate to have a place in Medan K Durian or else I would be most happy to travel all the way there just to pay respect every year.
I am going Medan this sunday.Hope to have a chance to see this place .
