JW Marriott Hotel Medan has their official Grand opening today, 25 February 2009. I was there as part of the Media group. You can see full details at MedanKu.com … The hotel comprises of 287 rooms with 3 outstanding dining places – The Marriott Cafe, The Prime SteakHouse and Bar as well as Jade Chinese Restaurant.

The hotel is outstanding hence gaining the JW Marriott title, one of the only 43 in the world to be credited with this highly recognised status. The room is well decorated, the room size is big and tastefully furnished. I was given the hotel tour, the outdoor infinity pool on the 17th level is rather impressive … the Health Club is the BEST in town with membership costing Rp 18.000.000 per person per year, giving you 24 hours access. The Quan Spa offers a wide varieties of treatments and the ideal place to unwind and relax.

I was invited for the food tasting at Jade Chinese restaurant, which I honestly have to say.. a fine dining place… though I have yet to experience the Marriott Cafe and the Prime Steak house and Bar…
It’s sure nice to see Medan has grown and developed into such a metropolitan town after these years…
Congratulations! JW Marriott Medan, you sure have made the local PROUD !!!!

oh well… i have to admit.. i am already there for dinner twice… the first when they have the soft launch and the second was 2 days back… Frankly, its one of the best restaurant in town for western cuisine… if u plan to go in for local or chinese food, forget about it… its not worth paying for the premium price.. but the steak, risotto, spagetti etc… they have my 2 thumbs up… its definitely also one of the most expensive retaurant in town but its well worth it if you have to compare to the price of a steak of about Rp 150.000 at Traders and it sucks….
best yet.. no worries about making reservation, as for service quality, much needed improvement… when I first walked in, and saw a professional western chef, i knew its gonna be my place… and i love every bits of it… nevertheless… my only concern is that.. how long is the hotel gonna retain the chef here in Medan… coz its definitely not going to be the same…. then all will be a flop… (only 4 tables were occupied on the night I was there)
for dessert, try the chocolate mousse.. its nice, smooth and soft… and the wine selection is not too bad… at the moment they have the 20% discount on food so 3 course meal for 2 with wine is in the range of about Rp 700.000 – 800.000.. ^0^
try it if you are a regular of Bel Mondo or Traders for the western food…. the standard is comparable to Jakarta standard…

Medan will soon add another hotel chain to its list of developing hotels in Medan Indonesia. Since the tsunami, Medan Hotels are all fully booked from 2 stars to 5 stars hotels. We always have trouble getting rooms for our guest to check into popular hotels such as Grand Angkasa, Novotel Medan and Polonia Medan. However, it will not be the case again in 2 years from now. As we have so many developing hotels popping up by then. Hotels in Medan coming up include:
- Marriot Medan, (Yes, we are finally having an international standard hotel in Medan!)
- Swiss-belhotel, which just opened in Aceh, will soon add a branch in Medan
- a Hotel chain which has not revealed its name will occupy Palladium Plaza in Medan
- Citi Hall – Boutique Hotel, which delayed construction seems to be moving on.
- Rumours has it that there are another two hotel projects on the way.
So good news to visitors and tourists to Medan. You will soon has more choices to stay and albeit cheaper prices too since there are more supply than demand now. Since the Indonesian Tsunami, hotels are all full booked hence prices for hotels have sky rocketed. Some visitors say that the Medan Hotels are even more expensive than in Capital of Jakarta!
