Beaches of Thailand

Oh well.. I have received several requests for me to recommend stuff of Thailand and sorry that I have taken so long to write… .. as there are so much to do in Thailand, I will be writing in different areas for each post for more details…. ^0^ .. firstly here will be the guide to the best beaches of Thailand.

Beaches in the South of Thailand - Phuket, Krabi, Koh Samui, Similan Island

If you are seeking nightlife activities in addition to the beautiful beaches, then Phuket will be the place for you coz Krabi and Samui are for the more relax, diving, clear water i.e couples kind of place…. both Krabi and Samui now have several direct flight from KL and Spore, so its quite convenient…

In Phuket, for best family resort (if budget allowed) is at JW Marriott Phuket, we have stayed there for a week and we absolutely love it, restaurants are great and staff are so friendly esp to kids…. the plus side is that no extra charges for kids below 12! very child friendly hotel and they have the kid buffet corner (free) when adults dine in the restaurant …. however, the only downside with this hotel is that it is very far from Patong (the town is about 1 hr drive). Alternative is at Holiday Inn Phuket (right in the middle of town) but the resort has no direct access to the beach…

as for couples, there are so many hotels and resorts to choose from depending on your budget… when booking, if the hotel does not provide any transfer, try to use the airport taxi (not the local) which are safer…

Nevertheless, please note that most of the hotels in town including those at Bang Tao beach including Sheraton/Banyan Tree/Laguna group of hotels are all affected by the Tsunami…. One of the sure hotel that is not affected by Tsunami is the Le Meridien Phuket Beach but the hotel rooms are in need of renovation, apart from that, all are 5 star rated services… As for Khao Lak, it is the hardest hit area by the Tsunami, unless you don’t mind, then I supposed you can try as the beaches are gorgeous..

Beaches Near Bangkok - Pattaya and Hua Hin

Many tourists know Pattaya very well… I loved it too when I was very young some 25 years back… but not anymore coz the town has become too much of night entertainment spot… although they have many activities and great shopping.. as for the beaches, its not at all what you see on those photos.. unless you take speed boat out to the nearby small island some 45 mins where you will get crystal clear water like Maldives…

Hua Hin.. is about 2.5 hours drive from Bangkok .. has many great Hotels.. and beaches are much much cleaner and just about as good as Phuket.. however, there is no night life and not much shopping apart from the night market and the local shopping mall, the town is more for families and couples and very safe (coz the Thai King is now residing in the Town @ his Summer Palace)…. best hotel to stay is at @ Hua Hin Hyatt Regency which has tall water slide that keeps all kids and adults self entertain (my 60 yrs old father-in-law love it so much that he couldn’t wait to go back there again)… and on your drive back to Bangkok, remember to stop by at one of the many Factory Outlets along the highway… very cheap clothing..

transfer to all these places can be arrange directly from the airport….

For more details, check out www.sawasdee.com and www.phuket.com. These are the two websites that are very complete on the list of hotels around Thailand, use them to decide where you want to stay and what sort of rooms (read visitors review for each hotel @ sawasdee.com.. its very helpful) and from there check other sites for the cheapest rate… currently www.directrooms.com offers the cheapest rate for JW Marriott Phuket for June holidays @ bht 5595 per night inc ABF and one way transfer (quite a good value compared to other resorts of the same standard.. so…we are going back there again for a week this summer… hehehhe)
